    Getting your message across is one thing. Convincing the other person often requires a lot more effort. Persuasion plays a key role in your ability to influence others and achieve results. You rely on our persuasive skills to convince our customers to sign a contract, to get support from our colleagues for a new project, or to convince your managers to invest in a project. • Are you always successful? • Did you always get the outcome you wanted? • Do you think you used the correct approach in your negotiations? Persuasive communication involves more than just coming up with strong arguments and counter criticism. There are many different techniques you can use to influence others and you could be far more successful if we knew what approach to use in what situation. In this session, we go “inside” the psychology of persuasion to understand how and why it works. We focus on the techniques that marketeers and salespeople use to design compelling messages, and explore why some messages are more persuasive than others.

    In Music Tech, we tend to think primarily in term of which new technology is around and how to use it. We could argue that this is a pretty valid standpoint as, for most of the modern Music history, the role of technology has been crucial in defining practices and aesthetics. Though it is important to highlight that the driving force of this evolution is fundamentally the human experience. I’ll try to discuss, in my 15 years of Music Tech practice, how the human-centred approach of Design has been a factor of innovation, creativity and change. The work that I will describe mostly gravitates around the HandSketch musical instrument project, how it started as a niche tech development for live contemporary performance, then jumped into the field of social interaction, to come back, changed, onto the stage and beyond. The guiding line of all those changes: the search for a more expressive human experience.
